GW is extremely fast paced and almost all characters are evenly equiped/level. The main difference is the Rock/Sissor part, in which case the paper is gonna come kick your ass because there isnt a 1v1.

GW has a nice storyline, I wouldnt play it many times though. Thats why you can pay runners to take you places.

This should run any game out, depending on your video card.

Auction houses are supposed to be coming later. Quests are prolly the same. If you like WoW's cartoonish look you may not like GW's superior and realistic graphics.

I dont know if the poster is still checking out this post, but here are my 2 cents (played GW a lot, WOW for a week before coming back to GW):

WoW has more of a world feel to it. you actually have to travel places, while the world is actively visible beneath the griffon's flight. you can fall from places and jump up to places and the whole thing feels more like a new world you just stepped into.

true, GW has amazing landscapes and great terrains, but they feel less like an accessible world (you can't swim to those beautiful islands you see) as WoW.

But that's not what GW is about. combat-wise (where it counts), GW simply rocks. I played a warlock (considered the most sophisticated class to play in wow) and at level 30 i was still using the same combat technique as i did at level 10. it's all about the grind. in GW, you will be changing your tactics and strategy constantly. you will have to THINK in order to succeed. you tackle various strategic situations and you can take on a lot more enemies if you plan and you know what you're doing. (unlike wow's 2 mob aggro again and again). the fact skills complement each other makes coordination vital to the success of high end missions.

and PvP: it's like lightning-fast chess. think fast or you die!

in short: if you like coming back from a long work day and killing time without thinking, killing monsters and improving your beloved avatar just to kill time, stick with wow. if you want to think, if you want to coordinate, if you want to work with a team, while constantly finding ways to evolve as a player, GW is for you.

The absence of uber (stats-wise) equipment and chess-like pvp gameplay (pitting teamwork and not items) are the two best features of GW for me.

I am not a grinder and have played (and regretted) games in which I need to grind mindlessly to get decent items and equipment just to avoid getting "totally pwned" by other hardcore players with their godly equips and unlimited potions.

If you share the same mindset as me, then GW is definitely worth trying.

PS. Against other teams with better teamwork and reflexes in GW now, I am not bothered being on the losing end.

Well I'm a long time Guild Wars player that has meddled around in WoW a little I played for about 2 and a half months of wow till i got bored of it.

Let me start off by saying the the PvE and PvP in gw are two entirely different games. The PvE experince in Guild Wars is subpar when compared to WoW. It lacks the freedom ,interactivenss, variety of things that you can do in WoW. Though for Guild Wars credit the missions do feel like I'm actually advancing a story line rather then doing random menial tasks for NPCs.

I would have to say that the Combat System in Guild Wars is Superior to that of WoW. The variety of skills and the abudance of counters and anti-counters for each skill adds to the depth of combat comapred to WoW. There are no dominating classes in the game GW is balanced in that if you try to be too strong in one area youll have to sacrifice something which will make you vulnerable to something else.
This adds a lot of strategy that is lacking in WoW.

I would Have to say the game world of GW is pretty big not as big as wow but enough to keep a person busy for a while.

I would say that GW has a strong sense of mission more so than WoW. The storyline is ok not too deep but it will keep your wanting to do the next mission the first time you play the PvE game. I would best describe GWs storyline as something you expect from a Cheesy B Fantasy movie. Its not going to win any awards, has a few faults and plotholes, is semi predictable, but will keep you entertained for a short while.

If you have 1 MG of ram then you might need some more RAM:P but if you meant 1 GB you should be fine

These no Real Random PvP encounters in the game theres an Random Arena you could goto if you just want some quick 4v4 fights.

No Auction House in GW. There are NPC traders that should be able to offer you anything you want except for high end equipment and upgrades but there are plenty of human players willing to trade with you. The busiest section on this website is the Auction section and the Trading Forums so if there is something out there you want and you have the gold it shouldnt be too hard for you to obtain.

I dont think there is much difference in Quests between WoW and GW you got all your standard quests types in both games.

I would have to say that PvP combat in GW is going to be about 60% Player skill and game Knowledge 30% player Build, and 10% Equipment.

Player skill and game knowledge is knowing what to do with your char and how to react to other players skills

Player build is deciding on what skills to bring on your limited 8 skill bar and how to distribute your attribute points to make the best use of those skills

player Equipment is bringing the best possible equipment and upgrades you can to suit your build I would have to say that pretty much any decent PvP player can get access to equipment comparable to what the best players use pretty easily.

One of the neat aspects of GW PvP is that you can roll a PvP only char that has access to anything you have unlocked so it allows you the freedom to play almost anything you want with some pretty good equipment. Also there is Faction you can earn by pvping (kind of like honor in WoW) which lets you unlock more Skills and upgrades for your equipment

PvP should have an greater effect on the world in chapter 2 but if your considering getting chapter 2 you should get chaper 1 first since youll need access to skills you can only get in chapter 1 to be competative in PvP to the fullest.

getting groups to do a mission or quest shouldnt be a problem since there are probabaly 20 other people around in each outpost looking to do that same quest. getting a good group for pve takes a little longer. For PvP getting a group of 8 decent players is a nightmare if you dont belong to a decent guild or know a lot of people in game.

Smile Please Read - The Ultimate Scoop

Background:
Got 1 year with GW. Have unlocked all elites for my warrior and monk. GVG nightly with my guild.
Have 2 months of experience with WOW. Started playing it just to pass time waiting for Factions. Have a level 40 Hunter.

Differences between GW and WOW.
1. GW is populated with 12 year old nerds. Its free what do you expect.
WOW has a lot of premadonas. Alot of people who play that game are high strung and insulting.

2. Guilds in GW are socialy stonger. The reason. The guild hall. In my guild I know everyone first name and know something about each of them. We hang at the Guild Hall, talk a lot, and know what each others toons look like.
In WOW, there is no place to hang with your guild mates. Higher guildies do not help lower guildies.

3. PVP is more equal in GW. PVP is more team work, and to be successfull requires a lot of interaction between guild mates.
PVP in WOW is wild but frustrating. I love the fact that when i am questing I have to watch my back all the time. But I hate getting ganked by a level 60 just cause he can. Nothing pisses me off more then getting back stabbed by a rogue while I am attacking a mob.

4. GW is not massive. Every Instance is small, and its just you and your buddies. This is good and bad. No backstabbing. No getting loot stolen.
WOW is massive. I must admit, I like it. A whole giant world to explore. Usualy the same level enemy in your zone, so sort of equal PVP. With my hunter I can solo. Its exciting. Must watch out for mobs and enemy.

5. WOW is way more of a grind. OMG the grind is sickening.

6. There is more lag in WOW. Go into a capitol city and i can hardly move.

7. ALL in ALL. 2 great games. Play them both. My heart is in GW. I love my guild mates. However WOW is a riot and have really enjoyed it.

Good Luck. My advice to you. Find a good Guild

Basically, what everthing people already said in this thread goes for me too.

Also, I just got my factions Pre-order, which gave me a 14 day trial for the first GW.

PM me your AIM/MSN/E-mail or whatever, and I'll send it to you ^_^

I'll also send you a key so you can play the Factions Preview Event from March 24th through March 26th. (lets you play the game for that weekend before the game actually comes out ^_^)
